MOUNT JULIET, Tenn. – A man down on his luck recently got some help from an observant police officer.

According to a Facebook post by the Mt. Juliet Police Department, officers responded to a call about a suspicious person. When they arrived, they found a middle-aged man who explained he was travelling from Knoxville to Kansas.

One officer, identified as Officer Thornhill, noticed the man was wearing two right-footed shoes, and both were in bad shape. So Thornhill took the man to Good Feet Tennessee in Providence and bought him brand new shoes with his own money.

The manager at Good Feet even discounted the pair of shoes for Thornhill.

“Our police officers act on their own daily, being true Guardians of our community, to help others in need and keep out city safe,” wrote the Mt. Juliet Police Department.
