A man is recovering in the hospital today after police officers and good Samaritans pulled him from a burning car.

Heart pounding video shows officers in Mesquite, Texas pleading with the man to stay conscious as they drag him from the flaming SUV on a highway. The two officers and a good Samaritan pulled the driver, 25-year-old Hector Valles, to safety. Officers say the man’s clothes were still burning when they pulled him out. The driver’s brother credits hector’s survival to the selfless strangers.

The family says he suffered burns and bone fractures to his back, legs, and ribs, but are grateful he is alive.
