GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Chaffee family has endured multiple tragedies over the last several years. Husband and father Greg Chaffee died suddenly from a heart attack at the age of 55 in 2012. Two years later, son Matthew Chaffee was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident. His brother, Adam, took care of him until he also became paralyzed after a swimming accident in 2015.

In the midst of facing such difficulties with strength and resolve, the Chaffee family has been the recipient of the kindness of friends, family and strangers. A successful GoFundMe campaign has raised over $90,000 to help pay with the brothers’ mounting medical bills. A fundraising website, Chaffee Strong, was created to raise money for a customized mobility van.

On Monday, the Chaffee brothers were presented with their customized van, according to mlive. Two groups of strangers who heard about the brothers’ story came together and helped raise $80,000 for the van.
