LIBERTY, Missouri – A man’s attempt to brighten a stranger’s day is making millions of people smile.
Quintin Conway posted a video to Facebook explaining the moment he saw an elderly woman sitting alone in her car reading a book. The woman was bald and Conway guessed she was in her 60s.
“I kind of had a stupid morning,” said Conway. “I wasn’t feeling very good. I wasn’t feeling very good about myself… Long story short, I was feeling sorry for myself.”
He was running errands and stopped at a store. As he was leaving, he spotted the woman in her car.
“I’ve never seen this lady before,” said Conway. “I drive past her, I drive out. And I just have this overwhelming urge that I need to turn back around, go in the store, buy her some flowers and take them to her.”
So Conway did. He bought the flowers and walked up to the woman’s car.
“And I said, ‘Look. I don’t know you, and this is weird… But I’ve been having a stupid morning feeling sorry for myself and I just had this crazy urge to buy you flowers, like you needed a smile,'” said Conway through tears. “She started crying. I don’t know her, but if you’re a woman sitting in a car reading bald, your life’s probably got some stuff going on.”
He told her he hoped the gesture made her smile and encouraged her to pass along the smile. As he left, he said he saw the woman ‘bawling’ in her car.
“So, moral of the story is, your life doesn’t always suck. It could suck worse,” said Conway. “Sometimes when you get down on yourself, you’ve got to have perspective.”
