“He’s been my role model and idol since I was a little kid,” Schafer of Clarksvillem Indiana told ABC News. “I spent so much time with him. He pretty much modeled me into the man I am today.”

Schafer said he always knew his grandpa would be his best man at his wedding, but his grandpa didn’t believe him until the wedding day approached and he went with Schafer to pick out tuxes.

“I didn’t think he’d want an old man up there,” Charles Schafer, 90, told ABC News. “I was wondering if I could keep up with them boys.”

Charles Schafer’s wife died in 2015.

He told ABC News that he has been in eight weddings total, in six of which her served as best man.

“When I wasn’t the best man, they got divorced. But every one of the six when I was the best man, they were together until they died,” Charles Shafer said.

KC Shafer married his bride, Sarah, on April 15 — the same day as Charles Schafer’s  wedding anniversary.
