An Orlando shooting survivor got a big surprise from his favorite pop superstar when appearing on the Ellen show this week.

Tony Marrero was invited to Ellen’s show to share his story of the tragic Pulse night club shooting which claimed 49 lives in June.

While there, he mentioned to Ellen that he listened to Katy Perry’s song “Rise” to get him through the difficult weeks and months following the shooting.

In typical Ellen style, Katy Perry was waiting backstage the whole time. She came out to surprise Tony, and within moments, they both were in tears.

“I just want to say thank you for everything you do,” Tony told the trembling pop star. “Your lyrics to that song helped me from the day that I was in the hospital all the way until now. You’re amazing.”

Katy said it was her honor to be a “light” for Tony during his dark days. Then, she gave him a big surprise that no one was expecting.

“I heard that you want to go to film school, so I personally want to pay for your first year at film school,” Perry said.
