A group of students made it to school safely thanks to a quick-thinking bus driver who avoided disaster aboard a burning school bus.
Driver Tressa Stroble was on her usual route last week in Duncan, S.C., when some students saw smoke coming from the bus, WSPA reports.
Stroble quickly pulled the bus over, evacuated all 56 students aboard and contacted the transportation to call 911.
“We are so proud of our bus driver,” said Superintendent Scott Turner. “She did exactly what she was trained to do.”
All that remains of the bus is a charred shell.
“She was calm. She kept the students calm. She made sure they were safe,” said Turner. “She’s our hero today.”
