NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Hundreds of students came to their teacher’s home and began to sing, after learning he made the difficult decision to stop cancer treatment.

Ben Ellis is a Latin teacher at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. He was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer late last year and recently decided to stop treatment, the Tennessean reports.

Ellis’ five children all attend Christ Presbyterian Academy.

Last week, students at the school learned the heartbreaking news and dropped everything to show support for their beloved teacher. They loaded up on buses and drove to their teacher’s home.

“This was a spur of the moment decision to go,” Leslie Ponder, a teacher at Christ Presbyterian Academy, wrote on Facebook. ” Students were in the middle of class, some taking quizzes and tests, and dropped everything for a bigger lesson on life, love, community, compassion.”

The video was shared by country singer Tim McGraw on Facebook, where it quickly went viral. Since posting it Saturday, the video has been viewed more than 23 million times.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” McGraw wrote on Facebook.
