ELIZABETH, N.J. –¬†Officials are crediting two homeless men with finding a backpack in a dumpster that contained bombs.

Mayor Christian Bollwage of Elizabeth, New Jersey says the bombs were found around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities say two men thought there were valuables inside the bag, but immediately dropped it when they found something suspicious. They walked to a nearby police station to alert officials.

Soon, a bomb squad determined the backpack contained five pipe bombs, KTRK reports.

Thanks in part to the men who found the bombs, police were able to track down and arrest a suspect in the case.
