DALLAS – A heartbreaking photo taken by the Dallas Morning Star shows a police officer crying in a hospital after a sniper took the lives of his colleagues and wounded several others.
The photos shows a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer overcome with grief and emotion after a peaceful protest against police brutality suddenly took a violent turn in Texas late Thursday night.
Officials say a sniper killed 5 officers, and several others were wounded. The officers were from both the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system.
One suspect was killed by police after an hours-long standoff. He was identified as 25-year-old Micha Xavier Johnson, according to ABC News.
Just hours before violence broke out, the Dallas Police Department shared photos of officers and protesters standing side-by-side with smiles.
One image shows two Dallas cops smiling next to a man with a sign that reads “no justice no peace.”
