ATHENS, Ohio – A Kroger employee made one elderly woman’s birthday a very happy one.

Jeannettea Hollingshead explained in a Facebook post that she stopped in at a Kroger store in Athens, Ohio to buy her grandmother a birthday cake. While there, she struck up a conversation with a friendly cashier named Wes.

“He asked about the cake, and when I told him about Gramma, he exclaimed, ‘Wait right here just a minute please!’ and walked away,” wrote Hollingshead. “He came back a minute later with a rose he’d purchased at the flower stand.”

Touched by the gesture, Hollingshead snapped a photo of Wes and her grandmother.

“This young man, Wes, went above and beyond, and his act of kindness really made Gramma’s day,” wrote Hollingshead.

Kroger responded to the photo and shared it on their own Facebook page.

“This is so sweet we had to take a moment to grab some tissues!” the grocery store chain wrote.
