LA PORTE, Tex. – A firefighter walked for 24 hours straight to raise money for the families of his fallen comrades.
Tony Constanzo is a firefighter in La Porte, Texas. He walked on a treadmill carrying a 40-pound pack on his back for 24 hours straight for a very good cause.
“October is Fire Prevention Month, so that’s the reason for this time of year for us, Footsteps for the Fallen, to honor our fallen,” Constanzo told KHOU. “Every October I try to do something out of the normal.”
The 32-year veteran started walking on a treadmill at a recreation and fitness center at 12 p.m. Friday. He didn’t stop until noon Saturday.
Constanzo’s non-profit, Footsteps for the Fallen, raises money to provide scholarships to the children of fallen firefighters.
After the walk, Constanzo enjoyed a hearty meal: A cheeseburger and fries.
