John Sheldahl tried to hold back tears when he saw his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time. His dream came true last week. He got to walk his daughter down the aisle.

Sheldahl has stage four lung cancer. Doctors gave him 8 months to live – that was three years ago. He knows time is precious.

“If you consider three years, I’ve done good,” Sheldahl said.

With the help of his nurses, his family started planning his daughter’s wedding at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Iowa.

“We planned a wedding in three days,” Aubrey Reser, one of the nurses, said.

The nurses planned everything from cake and flowers, to decorations, on the hospital’s rooftop terrace where family and friends gathered for the ceremony.

It was a day that Sheldahl will never forget.

“It was really special,” he said.
