MILWAUKEE, Wis. – An officer’s job is never done.

An off-duty officer was at a tailgate for a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game in Wisconsin when a woman started screaming that an autistic child was down by the river, WITI reports.

Off-duty Milwaukee Police detective Alexander Ayala and off-duty officer Jose Acevedo immediately ran down to save the boy, who was standing in the river.

Meanwhile, the boy’s father was frantically searching for his son. He had flagged down an officer on patrol and told them his 6-year-old son was missing. Within a few minutes, the two reunited.

“We both have kids, so right away we thought about our kids, you know? Like, what if this was our kid out there missing?” Acevedo told WITI. “So right away, instinct just kicked in and we just went in and saved the kid.”
