COLLEGE PARK, M.D. – A bus driver who lives paycheck to paycheck was given a big surprise by Ellen, who wanted to thank the single mom for saving 20 kids’ lives when a school bus caught fire.

Renita Smith is a 3-year veteran bus driver in College Park, Maryland. In September, she was driving a group of elementary school students home when she started to smell smoke.

She immediately pulled the bus over and got all 20 kids off safely.

A neighbor kept the kids safe as the fearless driver ran back on to the smoke-filled bus to make sure no one was left behind.
