A dad who was told his son wouldn’t live past age 2 is now celebrating his resilience in a beautiful way. He is about to celebrate his 30th birthday on August 12.

When Dallan was born, doctors told dad Chad Cloward that his son suffered from a developmental disorder called Wolf-Hirschhron syndrome. The disorder causes intellectual disabilities and growth delays.

According to the Today Show, Cloward plans to celebrate the momentous occasion by having 30 adventures before the big birthday on Aug. 2.

“It was important for me to do something special for him to mark the accomplishments he’s made in his life so far and all he’s done for me, too,” Cloward told the Today Show.

They started their adventure driving from their home in Arizona to the Grand Canyon where they camped and hiked. They also rode roller coasters and took a bike ride on an adaptive bike.

They still have a lot of adventures to go, and Cloward says the journey so far has been bittersweet.

“I have no idea how long I have left with him,” Cloward said. “So I’m just trying to make the most of it.”
