LA VERGNE, Tenn. – A police sergeant got a holiday miracle like no other.

Sgt. Burrel “Chip” Davis, 40, learned his kidneys were failing about two years ago. In July, his situation had gotten so bad that he was added to a transplant list.

When his co-worker Officer Eric Crowder, 32, learned Sgt. Davis needed a kidney, he got tested and learned he was a perfect match.

“I saw what my uncle was going through when my aunt donated a kidney to him and it was just like night and day after the surgery,” Officer Crowder told WKRN.

Both men have daughters, according to TODAY. Officer Crowder’s wife said they felt like the had to help.

“It was sad to think they could be without a parent,” said Devin Crowder.

The two men underwent a successful surgery and are now recovering.
