COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A community is coming together to end teenage homelessness in their neighborhood.

Urban Peak Colorado Springs hosted its annual “Off the Street Breakfast” in Colorado earlier this week.

The breakfast his held under an overpass bridge, where many homeless people set up shelter.

The breakfast brings hundreds of people together to shed light homeless teens, according to KXRM.

A homeless teen spoke at the event, sharing the story of when his dad kicked him out of the house.

“He was like, ‘What’s the plan? What are you going to do when you turn 19?’ and I said, ‘Well I’m just going to save up money and I’m going to become independent,'” said Jorge Acuna. “And he said, ‘Why wait? Why don’t you go now?’ and kicked me out right there on the spot.”

Acuna said the resources he’s gotten thanks to Urban Peak has helped him get back on his feet. In fact, he’s about to sign a lease on an apartment.
