BANKS COUNTY, Ga. – More than two dozen people are accusing a church member of collecting money for a cruise, then going without them.

Thirty Banks County residents say they’ve filed police reports against the woman. They say she collected up to $2,000 per person for an Alaskan cruise. The group claims she and her husband left for the cruise Sunday and told them they weren’t going with them.

They said she didn’t return their money.

“Who would think that anybody would be crooked and lie to you and steal from you inside of a church?” said church member William Varner.

The sheriff’s office is investigating. The woman is set to return from her cruise on Sunday.
