TEMPE, Ariz. – A mother says she was heartbroken and humiliated when two bullies squirted barbecue sauce on her and her autistic son at a park. When a group of kind strangers heard about the incident, they made sure he felt loved.

Mom Angie Swartout says she and her son, 15-year-old Ty, were playing Pokemon Go in an Arizona park when two college-age men walked by, stomped on a barbecue sauce container and covered them both in sauce.

She told KNXV that one boy turned around and shouted a slur at them.

Ty’s sister posted a picture of the incident to the Arizona Pokemon Go Community page. Soon, hundreds of people responded, offering to play the game with Ty at a nearby park.

When they showed up, many people brought Pokemon toys for Ty.

His mother cried happy tears.

“I’m so grateful. I’m just so grateful because if this wouldn’t have happened, we would still be hiding in our house like a lot of families like ours do. And I just can’t thank everyone enough,” said Swartout.
