MAUI, Hawaii – A group of boaters in Hawaii got a rare, up-close experience with a group of humpback whales while on a boating excursion.

The video shows the whales swimming around the boat, curiously examining it. You can even hear the whales ‘singing.’

YouTube user Katie Sheppard posted the video online.

“We couldn’t see the male humpback that was singing, but he was so loud we could hear it through our hull and I could feel the vibrations through my gopro stick,” Sheppard wrote on YouTube.

The video goes on for several minutes before the family of whales swim out of sight.

“Keep a close eye on the baby whale after it passes the front of our boat,” Sheppard advised. “He opens his mouth and takes a big gulp of water. It’s so cute!!”
