BRISBANE, Australia – Every year, thousands of pounds of perfectly good food is wasted; meanwhile, the needy stay hungry.
OzHarvest Brisbane is working to fix that problem by collecting excess food and redistributing it to more than 200 charities around Australia.
Recently OzHarvest partnered with the Brisbane Airport in Australia. They collect between 600 and 800 pounds of unused food from the airport everyday.
“We have one or two vehicles daily heading out to collect the food,” Queensland state manager Cameron Hickey told Australian news outlet, ABC.
Most of the extra food comes form cancelled flights, where the meals go completely unused.
In the future, OzHarvest hopes to collect extra food from airport terminal food vendors.
