HAVERHILL, Mass. – A UPS driver is being called a hero after getting a family out of a burning home while on his delivery route.

Paul Pereira was making his last delivery on Monday when he saw a fire raging on the front porch of a home.

“I just ran over, banged on the door, told the people in the house, ‘Your house is on fire!'” Pereira told WCBV.

The people inside had no idea their home was burning.

“By the time the fire department showed up, he had knocked down the fire. Had he not been there, that entire porch would have been engulfed,” said one neighbor.

The UPS driver said he’s just grateful that no one was hurt.

“I don’t feel I am a hero,” said Periera. “I think anybody would do it if they saw a fire, you know, act on it.”
