A police officer made an unlikely friend while eating alone at a restaurant.
Sgt. Steve Dearth of the Hingham Police Department said he took a dinner break at a Panera Bread restaurant last month.
According to a Facebook post shared by the Hingham Police Department, he noticed 3-year-old Lillian with her father at the restaurant. They smiled and waved at each other.
Soon, the father brought the 3-year-old girl over to Sgt. Dearth to say hello.
“He said she wanted to be a police officer when she grew up,” Dearth said, according to Global News. “I gave her a junior police officer sticker.”
Eventually, little Lillian sat in an empty chair next to Sgt. Dearth and started asking him questions about his job. She even asked if they could have a play-date within the next few days.
“She’s very sociable and very outgoing. I’ve been here for 24 years and never seen a child that friendly,” said Dearth.
A few weeks later, Lillian came by the police station with her mom for her play date with Sgt. Dearth.
“Our job can be negative,” said Dearth. “But when you have moments like this, it recharges your batteries; it can outweigh years of negativity.”
