DALLAS – A woman who went viral in October for dancing to “Juju on that Beat” while undergoing chemotherapy treatments has lost her battle with cancer.
Ana-Alecia Ayala and her friend gained fame in October for a video shared to Facebook from inside her hospital room. Ayala, 32, danced like she was completely healthy in the inspiring video.
According to family members, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
According to KVUE, Ayala was diagnosed with a rare tumor in her uterus. She has a 3-year-old daughter she and was trying to get pregnant with her second baby when doctors discovered the tumor.
Ayala met the woman who danced with her in her hospital room at a fitness group in 2015.
“She would come sit with me in my chemo session always bringing me entertainment — magazines, arts and crafts. Things to keep me distracted,” Ayala told KVUE after her video went viral.
Sometimes, they even danced.
“We did a dance to Meghan Trainor’s “Me Too” song last time, but never posted it online. This time she encouraged me to post it and everyone has been so sweet to share it and get it out there,” said Ayala.
Ayala said she hopes her video will inspire other cancer patients.
“I also want to encourage cancer patients’ loved ones to step out of their comfort zones, as Danielle did fore me, and be silly, have a dance party, be present in the moment and have a great time,” said Danielle. “Laughter is the best medicine and I hope to make people smile, even at the expense of my bad dance moves.”
