SAVANNAH, Ga. – A group of strangers waned to let a veteran dining alone that they cared about him.

According to a post by the Love What Matters Facebook page, the elderly man was sitting outside the Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Savannah, Georgia.

“He has long hair, a long gray beard, and was wearing a jacket with war badges,” the post reads.

The man politely greeted customers as they walked in, or wished them a good night as they walked out.

“Most people reacted to him, others completely ignored him,” the post read.

The person who originally wrote the post said they noticed the man eating alone, “smiling at everyone around him.”

A photo taken at the restaurant shows a young waiter in deep conversation with the man.

“The young waiter in the photo had all the patience in the world, he stopped to talk to this man, smiled and laughed with him and listened to stories about his life,” the post read. “My mom and I flagged the manager down and told him we wanted to pay for this kind man’s meal when he proudly said ‘ma’am, someone else already has.'”

As the man left, he told everyone “that he hoped they had a good night.”
