MERIDEN, Conn. – A family is mourning the loss of a 40-year-old mother who paid the ultimate price for saving her 7-year-old daughter from an oncoming car.

Police in Meriden, Connecticut say Dania Cedeno-Delrosario was crossing a road with her daughter, Denisse, when a car hit both of them, WFSB reports.

“It pushed both of us and it pushed her very hard,” said Denisse.

Denisse told WFSB that she remembers her mom pushing her out of the way.

“So I wouldn’t get hurt,” said Denisse.

Cedeno-Delrosario moved to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic two years ago, hoping to find a better life. She worked two jobs as a travel agent and caring for the elderly.

Police are still looking for a suspect in the fatal hit-and-run. Those with information are urged to contact Meriden Police at 203 630-6215.
