A boy is being called a hero after helping to steer a an elderly man’s car to safety when he lost control, swerving into oncoming traffic.

Christopher Wheeler, 10, was riding with his elderly neighbor in Alabama when all of a sudden, the 70-year-old driver started to suffer a diabetic episode.

The car was swerving across the roadway, and soon it crossed over the median into on-coming traffic. That’s when Christopher took the wheel.

“I put my foot on the brake and I got the steering wheel and pulled it over and put it in park. I didn’t want us to die,” said Christopher.

Trooper Lee Wells with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency agreed that he was a hero.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before, so yes, absolutely a hero,” said Lee.

The elderly driver was taken to a hospital and is expected to be okay.

Christopher says he is now considering a future in law enforcement.
