ATLANTA – Family and friends are asking for help after a devastating accident paralyzed a groom-to-be from Atlanta just weeks before his wedding.
On Dec. 3, Brett Greenhill, 39, was celebrating a joint bachelor/bachelorette party with his fiancee Meg Alexander in Naples, Florida ahead of their February wedding.
While relaxing on the beach, members of the bridal party suddenly spotted Greenhill floating motionless in the water. According to a post on GoFundMe, they rushed to find him conscious but unable to move.
First responders took Greenhill to a nearby hospital where neurosurgeons removed fragments of shattered vertebrae from his spinal cord.
“The injury has by definition caused paralysis, but the results are not definitive,” loved ones wrote on the couple’s GoFundMe page. “He has been approved residency at Atlanta’s Shepard Center, one of the world’s best spinal clinics, to begin the rehabilitation journey.”
The couple is asking for donations to help with medical costs and transportation to bring Greenhill home to Atlanta. So far, they have raised more than $85,000.
