MANCHESTER, England – Just 45 minutes after getting his final wish, a grandfather passed away following a long battle with prostate cancer.

Paddy Lawler, 73, was able to meet some of the players of the Manchester United soccer team, The Mirror reports.

Just a few days earlier, his granddaughter, 27-year-old Kayleigh, posted a plea to Facebook, asking friends, family and strangers to share the post in hopes of getting the attention of the soccer team.

Lawler battled cancer for years, and it looked like his battle was coming to an end.

“We asked him the other day if he would like to do anything before his time comes and he said to meet the team,” Kayleigh wrote on Facebook. “[He] tried his hardest to keep his eyes open yesterday to watch the match but sadly he missed it! I know he will be so gutted that he didn’t watch it. I’m sure he will be a very happy man if I can get his last wish.”

Soon after the post went viral, Manchester United soccer players Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young and Timothy Fosu-Mensah arrived at the man’s home. According to the BBC, he died just 45 minutes after they left.

“They didn’t have to visit a man on his deathbed, it was an incredibly selfless thing to do,” Kayleigh told The Sun. “He died just 45 minutes after they left and we’re convinced he held on just to see them.”
