AVON, Ind. – A woman dashed her dreams of a perfect wedding when she learned her mom was too sick to attend, opting instead to marry the love of her life at her mother’s bedside.

WXIN reports mom Cheryl Owens is battling stage 4 kidney cancer at IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Indiana. She recently learned the cancer had spread to her lungs.

Her daughter, Kristen and her fiancé Brian were planning to get married on February 4. When they learned Cheryl’s cancer had worsened, they decided to get married as soon as possible inside her hospital room.

“She is a special lady and has been waiting for this day since I was 5,” Kristin WXIN.

Kristen wore her wedding dress, and the hospital staff pulled together the ceremony in just a few hours.

“Tonight, we are very proud of our IU Health West Hospital ICU team, who pulled off an amazing whirlwind wedding for Kristin Owens and Brian Powers,” IU Health West wrote on Facebook.

I cannot even begin to express my gratitude,” Kristen responded in the comments of the post. “Thank you for making this such a special and happy event for my entire family.”
