Strangers are rallying to help a homeless man who went viral for returning a woman’s lost purse after two days of searching for her.
Daisy Owen told The Bolton News she was enjoying a night out in Bolton in the U.K. when she misplaced her purse. Everything from her phone to her keys were inside the purse. She had lost hope that she’d ever see her possessions again until she got a message from old friend from school.
“They said there is a homeless man going around Bolton and he is looking for you and he is determined to find you to give you your bag,” Owen told The Bolton News.
Owen came back to Bolton to look for the man. She approached groups of homeless people, asking for the man only identified as “Paul.” She eventually found him and he happily returned her purse with everything still inside it. He had even written a letter stating his intentions of returning the bag, just in case the police stopped him.
“He was terrified of letting any of the other homeless people in Bolton know he had found this bag, or the police seeing him with it in case he was accused of stealing so he has spent the weekend walking around with this letter so he didn’t get in trouble,” Owen wrote on a GoFundMe page.
Owen started a GoFundMe page to raise money to help Paul get a home of his own. So far, the page has raised more than $2,800 by strangers around the world. If you would like to donate, click here.
